Here are the results for the 2026 Chichester Challenge
The evening of 20th May 2026 saw the annual Chichester Challenge, as members from Chichester Film Makers joined us at Ferring Village Hall for an enjoyable evening of film screenings, conversation and friendly competition between the two clubs.
The programme opened with six general films, followed later by a round of short one-minute productions.
Jason’s short documentary explored a recent Signals & Telecoms project at the Bluebell Railway. Combining his filmmaking hobby with his volunteering work in the railway’s Signals and Telecommunications department, the film gave an interesting insight into the restoration work involved.
A colourful holiday documentary featuring the Jardin des Fontaines Pétrifiantes in France. Beautiful scenery combined with an explanation of the formation of limestone features, making for an interesting and informative film.
Chris presented an intriguing piece about a cottage once lived in by Mrs Smith until the age of 102. The film offered a thoughtful glimpse into life within a small Lincolnshire community.
This holiday film took us further afield with a selection of sights and activities from a trip to Australia.
Howard’s documentary explored the Chichester Fringe Epic Comedy productions. Alongside excellent live performance footage, the film included interesting behind-the-scenes interviews with both performers and organisers.
A Star Wars-inspired fantasy featuring two young actors composited into original-style footage. The effects work, matching camera angles and technical detail were very well executed.
Alan’s AI-generated film revisited memories of earlier years spent with friends.
An amusing short sketch involving an elderly gentleman and his dishwasher.
Howard’s second film of the evening was a coded parody based on a famous Churchill quotation referenced in Boris Johnson’s book.
A ski holiday film featuring impressive snow sports footage and excellent camerawork. Filming on skis without falling over is no small achievement.
After the films there was a short break with a selection of delicious canapés kindly provided by Ray.
The three judges — Michael from SDFM, independent adjudicator Michael, and Gary from Chichester Film Makers — then deliberated carefully before announcing the scores.
The first round was scored from 6 to 1, with 6 being the winning entry. Round 2 was scored 4 to 1. Jason from SDFM won round one with The Ground Frame and CFM won the second with Do It Yourself. The overall scores resulted in SDFM winning the 2026 Chichester Challenge.
